Not having any responsibilities this past Sunday, Aylene and I attended the Preston Corps to share in worship.
Being the first Sunday in Advent, Major Michael Wright spoke about “hope’”and made the comment, “hope is the tension between the reality of ’what is – and what is not yet.”
Most people hope for something? At this time of the year, children have high hopes around their expectations of what gifts they might receive Christmas day. Adults on the other hand, are much more serious about our hopes and aspirations for the future.
In answer to a question put to the congregation on Sunday around, what were some of their hopes, the answers were deep and personal. One person hoped for a drug free future, another, to overcome an alcohol addiction, another was for a good medical prognosis and for still another was, the hope that her grandchildren might grow to love the Lord.
But I just love the idea of hope being the tension between “the reality of what is, and what is not yet.” It is so positive a statement and powerfully positions confidence in the future.
I was so grateful to be reminded of the beautiful truth concerning hope.
